It’s not long to go until the Bury St Edmunds Festival of Sport!

This is a week long festival that gives you the opportunity to get active and have fun doing it by trying out a new sport!

The festival runs from Saturday 9th to Sunday 17th July and offers opportunities for all ages and fitness levels.

Below we have listed some of the things that you can look forward to:


5k Fun Run
The Festival of Sport 5k Fun Run takes place on 12th July at 7pm and starts at Charter Square. If you’re interested in taking part, click here to sign up!

Park Runs
If you would prefer a slightly more relaxed affair, there are Park Runs taking place on 9th and 16th July in Nowton Park. Pop along to have fun and make some new friends! Click here or more info.


Ever fancied trying your hand at competitive cycling? Well now’s your chance with StreetVelodrome! You can get involved in this fantastic activity in Charter Square from 15th-17th July, but places are in high demand, so sign up quick by clicking here.

It’s time to get on your bike with Women on Wheels (WOW)! This charity bike ride is for women of all ages and abilities, whether you’re an avid cyclist or riding for the first time in years. Head over to Nowton Road on 10th July at 8am and join in the fun! Click here for more info.


You can support the Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club at a number of different matches throughout the festival. With action from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI as well as the Twenty20 team, when it comes to cricket action, you’re spoilt for choice! Click here for more info.


Here’s your chance to gain a free taster of life on the water! Whether you’re a beginner wanting their first try or more experienced and looking to hone your skills, the St Edmundsbury Sailing & Canoeing Association are offering you an opportunity to take to the water. Click here for more info.


Zumba is a highly popular dance fitness workout that combines Latin & international music to form an excellent way to burn calories and have fun doing it! You can join the Zumba party for free with Alex Beale on 10th July between 1pm and 4pm in Charter Square, click here for more info.

Jazzercise combines dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and Latin-style movements, all set to popular music. You can try a free taster on 10th July from 10:30am to 12:30pm in Charter Square - why not bring a friend? Click here for more.

Baby Ballet
Baby Ballet is an excellent way to introduce your kids to the basics of ballet using songs and dances. There are classes for kids from 3 months to 4 years old taking place at the Apex on 10th July. Head over to give the kids a taster of this graceful dance. Find out more here.


Jetts Netball Team will be giving demonstrations, providing details on netball clubs in the area and will even offer you the chance to practise your shooting skills! Head over to Sports Direct on 10th July between 10am and 3pm to find out how you can get involved! Find out more here.


Have you ever experienced the high-octane excitement of an American Football match? Well now’s your chance! Head over to Thetford Rugby Club on 17th July at 2:30pm to see the Bury Saints play Colchester Gladiators. Click here for more info.


Here’s your chance to experience the basics of this ancient art. Gentle stretching, breathing exercises and the hand form will make up this introduction. It’s free to take part, but spaces are limited, book today!


Mums Fit HIIT
Being a mum is a 24/7 job and it can be very difficult finding time to exercise, that’s why Samantha Hardingham from Meta.Fitness is offering you a free taster of this scientifically-proven way to get fit quick, with no need for any equipment. Click here for more information and dates.

Mummy and Baby Yoga
Gain a taster of Tiddlywinks Yoga where there is gentle yoga for mums along with singing, yoga and massage for kids from six weeks to crawling. Spaces are limited for this free event, so book your space early to avoid disappointment!
