Now You Has Jazz...

Now You Has Jazz!

Michael Law’s Piccadilly Dance Orchestra celebrate their 30th Anniversary in 2018 and will join forces with Strictly Come Dancing singer Lance Ellington for their show at The Apex on 23 September.

From the Charleston of the 1920s Gatsby era through the beautiful classic songs of the 1930s, to swing and jazz hits, the Piccadilly Dance Orchestra, performs the greatest dance music and the best tunes of the Jazz Age. Lance Ellington has become one of the UK’s most popular male vocalists, recording and performing under his own name as well as regular appearances on the hit BBC series Strictly Come Dancing.

In amongst the PDO’s swinging set, Lance will sing songs by his father - legendary jazz band leader, Ray Ellington, Cab Calloway, Frank Sinatra and Duke Ellington (no relation!).

The grand finale features music from Cole Porter’s High Society, including 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?', 'Well Did You Ever?', 'Now You Has Jazz' and 'True Love'.

The PDO enjoyed four years residency at The Ritz, six years at the Savoy and their own series of dances at the legendary Café de Paris.

"The sumptuous Savoy Hotel was transformed into a spectacular Speakeasy. The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra ensured that everyone was up on their toes ...VIP guests such as Elizabeth Hurley, Stephen Fry, Lulu, David Furnish and Tracey Emin were soon transported to a bygone era" - NOW magazine.

The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra were chosen for the BBC 4 series Len Goodman's Dancing Feet and the sequel Len Goodman's Dance Band Days. The orchestra has also played on television for Wogan, Daytime Live, Pebble Mill, Play It Again and Lorraine Live. BBC live radio broadcasts include: Radio 2’s Arts Programme and VE Day celebrations from Hyde Park, a live lunchtime concert from the Wigmore Hall for Radio 3 and a special edition of Loose Ends to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the BBC on Radio 4. You can also catch The PDO in the Helen Mirren/Michael Caine movie Last Orders, playing ‘Chattanooga Choo-Choo’!

The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra promise an unforgettable evening of toe tapping songs from a golden era of music at The Apex on Sunday 23 September at 7.30pm. Tickets are £22, with £5 tickets for under 25, ring the box office on 01284 758000 or see the website www.theapex.co.uk for details.
