Current Plans for Abbey Gardens...

The Borough Council is co-ordinating a funding application of over £1 million to the English Heritage Lottery fund in order to improve the Abbey Gardens. One of the proposals is for a permanent bandstand to be located in the Gardens.

The proposed plans, for the application, will be displayed in the apex between 10am to 5pm, Monday 23 to Saturday 28 January.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the apex and to let the Borough Council know their thoughts.

They have already taken on board many of the views that have emerged during the consultation process and these plans will form part of the bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for funding to develop the plans in more detail in order to undertake a major restoration of this very important park.

They are submitting their bid at the end of February. They’ll know the result in July, when they discover if they have been awarded funding to work up a detailed, costed final submission for the main grant – a process in which everyone will be able to be involved in.
