Marathon Effort Beats Fundraising Target!...

Walkers who tackled a gruelling 78 mile journey from The Globe Theatre to the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds to raise funds for the Theatre Royal have exceeded their fundraising target and after all their leg-work have raised an astounding £11,049!

After 3 days, 78 miles and an untold number of blisters a weary group of fundraisers returned to the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds having raised an eye-popping £11,049 for the Theatre. Throughout its 200 year history the Theatre has always relied on public goodwill and support and its target to raise an ambitious £10,000 for this challenging event – a distance of three marathons – has been exceeded through the generosity of those who donated.

The Theatre has to fund raise at least £190,000 a year to help ensure the doors are kept open to welcome, entertain and engage some 90,000 visitors and that it remains healthy and robust for the future.

Audience members, Friends, Patrons, supporters and locals turned out to join in with the final leg of the walk, supporting the bedraggled but elated walkers as they walked from Clare, to Whepstead and on to the Theatre, to be greeted by a well-earned celebratory party in the Theatre’s Greene Room Bar.

The Theatre Royal would like to thank all those who so kindly donated, and the local companies who supported the event, including generous sponsorship from BuryPhysio, catering for the celebratory party from Sainsburys, and help from Mulley’s Coaches, who provided transport to Clare for walkers joining the final leg.
