Launch of Organ Festival 2013

On Saturday 16 March 2013, the annual Organ Festival will be launched at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds.

The first celebrity organ recital of the series will be played by James Davy, Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral. The recital, which begins at 5.00 pm and is free of charge, will include works by Bach, Leighton and Vierne.

‘Even though it is now into its third year, the Harrison and Harrison organ continues to thrill and delight audiences and players alike,’ comments James Thomas, Director of Music at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.

The organ was completely refurbished in 2010 and was further enhanced by the installation of two new painted and gilded cases which have transformed the interior of the Cathedral.

The Organ Festival continues throughout 2013 with recitals by Katherine Dienes-Williams, Mervyn Cousins and Ashley Grote as well as the Cathedral’s own musicians, Dan Soper and James Thomas.

For full details of the Cathedral Organ festival, see www.stedscathedral.co.uk (either Events on the home page or on the Music page).

All recitals are at 5.00 pm and are free of charge with a retiring collection. The exception will be the recital on 9 November, when tickets will be priced £10 (available from September). This final recital of the year will be by world-renowned organist, Thomas Trotter.
