Launch of Organ Festival 2016...

The Cathedral organ at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, is five years old this year. This season’s Organ Festival launches on Saturday 5 March 2016, and coincides with the anniversary of the inaugural recital on the Harrison and Harrison Organ by Nicolas Kynaston.

Following the success of previous years, the Festival showcases well-known organists from far and wide, offering first-class organ music throughout the year.

The first recital of the series will be played by the Cathedral’s own Director of Music, James Thomas. The recital, which begins at 5.00 pm and is free of charge, will include works by Bach, Franck and Saint-Saëns.

‘Our music programme has gone from strength to strength since the refurbishment of the organ in 2010,’ comments James Thomas, Director of Music at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. ‘We have an exciting programme planned for this year which includes a Church Organists’ Day on 9 July when organists of all denominations can receive guidance from internationally renowned recitalist and teacher Gordon Stewart.’

More details about the Church Organists’ Day will be available shortly on the Cathedral website. The Organ Festival continues throughout 2016 with recitals by Daniel Cook, John Kitchen, Gordon Stewart, Andrew Millington, Dan Soper and Sarah MacDonald. For full details of the Cathedral Organ festival, see (Forthcoming events).

All recitals are at 5.00 pm and are free of charge with a retiring collection.
