Launch of Organ Festival 2014...

On Saturday 1 March 2014, the fourth annual Organ Festival will be launched at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds.  Following the success of previous years, the Festival showcases well-known organists from far and wide, offering first-class organ music on the Cathedral’s Harrison and Harrison organ, throughout the year.

The first celebrity organ recital of the series will be played by Stephen Cleobury, Director of Music at King’s College, Cambridge. The recital, which begins at 5.00 pm and is free of charge, will include works by Stanford, Mendelssohn, Bach and Elgar.

‘It is a delight to welcome a wealth of talented musicians to St Edmundsbury Cathedral,’ comments James Thomas, Director of Music at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. ‘The Organ Festival offers a real musical treat to local audiences.’

The organ was completely refurbished in 2010 and was further enhanced by the installation of two new painted and gilded cases which have transformed the interior of the Cathedral.

The Organ Festival continues throughout 2014 with recitals by Peter Crompton, Timothy Byram-Wigfield, Gerard Brooks and Stephen Farr as well as the Cathedral’s own musicians, Dan Soper and James Thomas. For full details of the Cathedral Organ festival, see (Forthcoming events) All recitals are at 5.00 pm and are free of charge with a retiring collection.
