10 Things to do at the Festival of Sport

The Bury St Edmunds Festival of Sport 2017 is nearly here! This brilliant celebration of sport in our amazing town takes place from Monday 23rd October to Sunday 29th October and promises to once again be a fantastic fun week of activities!

Below, we have given you some suggestions of 10 different things to try that are open to all ages and abilities. Take a look and get involved!


Try Your Hand at Tennis
24th & 26th October. 10:00am
Charter Square, arc Shopping Centre, IP33 3FD
Entry: Free

There will be opportunities to either try your hand at tennis, or practice your strokes in Charter Square during the Festival of Sport.

Both Culford Sports Centre and Titan Tennis Academy will be on hand to help you master the art of this fantastic sport.


Festival of Sport 5k Fun Run
25th October, 7:00pm
Charter Square, arc Shopping Centre IP33 3DG

Entry: £8

The Positive Steps 5k Fun Run will return this year and will take you on a route from the centre of Bury St Edmunds that will take you through the most beautiful parts of the town.

The run is open to people of all ages and abilities and is a relaxed atmosphere where you can try your hand at running, maintain your hobby, or meet new people on the way round.


Sports Aid Lunch with Geoff Miller
27th October, 12:00pm
The Athenaeum IP33 1LU
Entry: £30.00

We are honoured to have cricket legend, Geoff Miller hosting a lunch at the Atheneum as part of the Festival of Sport to talk about his career, the up and coming Ashes and inspiring young people to play sport.

Geoff Miller played cricket for Essex, Derbyshire and England and also used to be chief national selector. Don’t miss what will be a fascinating experience!


Badminton
27th October, 10:00am
Charter Square, arc Shopping Centre, IP33 3FD
Entry: Free

Whatever your age, this is a fantastic opportunity to give the hugely exciting and excellent fun sport of badminton a try!

There will be friendly badminton matches and also fun target games to play and best of all, it is all completely free! Come along and give it a try!


Bury Town Vs Potters Bar
28th October, 3:00pm

Here’s your chance to watch Bury Town Football Club in their match against Potters Bar in the Bostik North Division. Come along and show your support for our fantastic town team!


Yoga for Everyone

The health benefits from yoga are well-known and wide-reaching. Not only is it fantastic for your your personal health and fitness, but it is also great for your mind.

Throughout the Festival of Sport there are loads of opportunities to try yoga, from beginner classes, to mixed ability and even postnatal yoga, there is something for everyone.


Bury Wolves Vs. Saffron Walden 2nd XV
28th October, 3:00pm

Do you love rugby? Did you know that Bury St Edmunds’ Rugby Club's Bury Wolves, will be playing on Saturday 28th October? Come along and show your support as they take on the Saffron Walden 2nd XV in the Eastern Counties Greene King League.



Running Festival
29th October, 9:00am

Love running? Or maybe you’d like to give it a try? On Sunday 29th October there is a whole running festival taking place that really does have something for everyone of all abilities!

The Running Festival will include a family fun run, a 10k, a half marathon and Bury St Edmunds’ first ever full marathon! Book now and head along to Skyliner Sports Centre at 9:00am to take part.


BNH Fitness HIIT Workout
29th October, 12:00pm

Ever tried HIIT fitness? HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training and is a form of cardiovascular exercise that involves short bursts of intense activity.

This is a great way to burn fat and increase overall fitness, but have you got what it takes to go the distance? Give it a try on 29th October at 12:00pm!


Zumba with Alex Beale
29th October, 11:00am / 1:00pm / 3:00pm

The phenomenon that is Zumba is a fusion of Latin and international music combined with high and low intensity moves to create a fantastic dance fitness work out.

Burn off some calories on 29th October in Charter Square where you will be able to take part in a Zumba class for free to see if it is something you want to get in to!
